Tell Me Forever

How it works

You choose what to ask. They answer out loud, from wherever they are. Tell Me Forever writes it down and turns it into a book with their voice inside it.

The person telling the stories never signs in, never sees a bill, and never has to learn anything.

  1. YOU, ONCE

    1. Choose the questions

Start from a set we wrote — childhood, work, love, the war years — and change any of them. Twelve is a good number to begin with, and you can add more at any time. This takes about ten minutes and is the only setting-up there is.

  2. THEM, WHENEVER THEY LIKE

    2. They get a link and talk

They receive a message with a link. One question, one large button, and nothing else — no account, no password, and nothing to install.

  3. US

    3. We write it down

Every answer is transcribed automatically. You can correct anything the transcript got wrong, and trim silences or false starts out of the audio — or leave it exactly as they said it, which is what most people do.

  4. YOU, AT YOUR OWN PACE

    4. Choose what goes in the book

Answers do not go in until you say so. Put them in the order you want, give the book a title and a dedication, and leave out anything that was a false start or too private.

  5. YOU, BEFORE PAYING TO PRINT

    5. Read the proof

You see the whole book, laid out, before anything is printed. A printed book is the one thing here that cannot be corrected afterwards, so the proof comes first and the money second.

  6. US

    6. It is printed and posted

Perfect bound in paperback or case wrapped in hardback, printed and posted. Order as many copies as there are people in the family.

Their voice, in the book

Beside each story there is a small square code. Anybody can hold a phone up to it and hear the recording — the actual voice, telling the actual story, for as long as the book exists.
